Spanish-American War (apr 21, 1898 – dec 10, 1898)

Description:

Short fought war against Spain beginning in Cuba, fears that Spain was looking to reconquer followed by the sinking of the Maine, battleship causing american death, led to declaration of war under hungary McKinley. The war ended with the 1898 Treaty of Paris in which Spain agreed to give the U.S. control over many of her colonial possessions including the Philippines, Guam, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. Blown out of proportion by yellow journalism-sensationalism over facts.
