Ancestral Puebloan Culture (jan 1, 800 – jan 1, 1200)

Description:

The Ancestral Puebloan peoples of Southwestern North America saw expansion through the "four corners" area of modern-day Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah and were characterized by their dwellings (pueblos and cave dwellings) and complex systems of irrigation and trade roads. The exonym "Anaasázi" was used for them by the Navajo and has been adopted into contemporary US discourse, though contemporary Puebloans protest use of the term.
