American Revolution (jan 1, 1776 – jan 1, 1783)
Description:
Causes: Started as a fight over North American dominance. England, Spain, and France wanted to be dominant in the New World. Benjamin Franklin invited France to support the rebellion. The French aided the American colonists because they didn’t like the English.
Participants: England vs. The World (mostly Spanish and French)
Outcome: Treaty of Paris (1783) ended the American Revolution.
France was already struggling financially, and joining the American colonists created more French opposition to the French government.
Encouraged reform in government systems all over Europe, especially England. It showed the other countries how to carry out a rebellion. It inspired the French revolution
