Reconstruction Era (dec 8, 1865 – mar 31, 1877)

Description:

A period following the Civil War to rebuild the South and bring it back into the Union.

However, Reconstruction would end as a failure in 1876 because of the election and focus on big business (Gilded Age), leaving African Americans abandoned in the South under control of the "redeemer Democrats."

Because of this, African Americans would be denied of rights for a century.
