Mexican American War (apr 25, 1846 – feb 2, 1848)

Description:

Texas really wanted to join the Union, but obviously Mexico didn't want to lose a third of their land. The country border was also heavily disputed, with Mexico claiming the Nueces River and the US declaring the Rio Grande the boundary. After a provoking station causing American deaths on "American Soil" war was declared by congress under Polk. General Zachary Taylor was able to defeat the Mexicans at the battles of Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma. Then a march and capture into Mexico secured the war for America. Comparable to Hernan Cortés takeover of the Aztecs. (Mexican leader General Antonio López de Santa Anna.)
