Friedrich Schleiermacher Lifespan (jan 1, 1768 – jan 1, 1834)
Description:
Schleiermacher is a founding professor at the University of Berlin, who is dismayed that his intellectual friends believe religion is just superstition. Friedrich is influenced by philosopher Kant as he is impressed by Kant’s assessment of reason’s limitations, but was not persuaded by his attempt to rebuild theology on the basis of “morality”. Schleiermacher believes Christianity isn’t about dogma/theology but is insteadabout a feeling.
