Living Room War (first TV war = less support bc Americans can see the destruction happening)
- leads to protests of war (counter culture)
NORTH:
- traditional style of living = agri, rural, village
- less FR influence than S
- Support Ho Chi Minh (communist)
- Vietnamese ntlism rise = want freedom from FR
- Viet Minh indep mvmt = declared indep after WWII
SOUTH:
- industrialized
- more FR influence
- open to W influence because could export surplus (trade)
had more money
- anti communist (so US Support) = Ngo Diem
Viet Cong:
Northern supporters in the South = civil war in S
- wanted to be 1 Vietnam
