Description:
During Jackson's presidency, the United States evolved from a republic—in which only landowners could vote—to a mass democracy, in which white men of all socioeconomic classes were enfranchised. "Old Hickory" from his home state of Tennessee. Major General in the war of 1812, became famous for his victory at the Battle of New Orleans. From there he dealt with the infamous bank war, end of the second national bank, and then the tariff war of 28-33. Infamous for his harsh treatment of Natives.
