James Monroe (jan 20, 1817 – jan 19, 1825)
Description:
The president during the Era of Good Feelings, elected for two terms, overall a solid Democratic president. Beginning with Florida/Georgia Indian conflict involving Spain and Andrew Jackson, to the Panic of 1819 the presidency began a little rough. The then Missouri compromise occurs, in which Monroe remains neutral. His Monroe Doctrine marks a high point in his presidency, claiming to continue a policy of neutrality while asserting the Americas are now off limits to further European colonization.
