-Tariffs: Southerners did not like the tariff because everything would become more expensive for them. Westerners supported tariffs because they bought goods from NE
-Internal Improvements: transportation would "bind us together," development of railroads and steam engine
Jefferson didn't want domestic manufacturing (does not encourage individualism), but his tariff encouraged it.
