Pabna Revolt (mar 1, 1873 – jul 1, 1876)
Description:
- The peasants, known by the natives as ‘Ryots’, started the resistance movement against Landlords for enhanced rents beyond legal limits --> currently in Bangladesh
- Due to Occupancy Right under Bengal Rent Act (Act X) of 1859
- Main form of struggle was that of legal resistance, there was very little violence
- Led to the Bengal Tenancy Act of 1885
- Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, RC Dutt an Indian Association under Surendranath Banerjee played a significant role in this
