Reign of Sigismund of Luxemburg
1387-1437AD (jan 1, 1387 – sep 1, 1437)
Description:
Sigismund was one of the
driving forces behind the Council of Constance that ended the Papal Schism, but which also led to
the Hussite Wars that dominated the later period of Sigismund's life. In 1396 he led the disastrous
Crusade of Nicopolis, but was defeated by the Turks. As Sigismund was ruling so many countries, he
was often absent in Hungary, which encouraged the nobles to do what they wanted.
