Description:
A new revival movement, the Second Great Awakening, spreads westward across the United States. Tent revivals focused on evangelism and moral living fed into social reforms including temperance, women’s emancipation, philanthropy, and mission societies, as well as the founding of several new denominational seminaries and colleges. The Baptist and Methodist churches emerge as mainstream denominations during this time.
