De Jure Segregation (jan 1, 1865 – apr 11, 1968)
Description:
Segregation enforced by law. For the purpose of this timeline slavery is not counted. It starts with the Black Codes aimed at stopping freed slaves from voting and endured through Jim Crow and only ended with the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Fair Housing Act of 1968.
