Description:
- The real founder of Portuguese power in the East- He captured Goa from the Sultan of Bijapur in 1510
- He introduced a permit system for other ships
- banned Sati, encouraged local wives
- In Goa and Cochin, introduced new crops like Tobacco and Cashew nuts, a better plantation variety of Coconuts
