Fifteen Years' Anarchy of Rome (apr 28, 646 – sep 7, 660)

Description:

Fifteen Years' Anarchy of Rome started as the death of Justinian II, who leave a young successor, Tiberius III, and a regency council led by Gregorious. Soon the Tiberius III found dead and Gregorious then crowned himself as Augustus, and several generals also declared Augustus by their troops and marched toward Constantinople. From 646 to 660, the crown had been passed on over twelve Augustus in about 15 years, until Romanos I the Illyrian took over. Such a period shows the final transition from Late Antique to Early Medieval in Rome.
