Description:
Egypt tried to nationalize the Suez Canal Company, a joint British and French company. While he offered a fair price or the company Britain and France were suspicious of the Egyptian president and outraged at the nationalization. The United States tried to mediate several times but Britain and France conspired with Israel to invade Egypt. In order to distance itself from European colonialism the US voted in the UN to condemn this invasion and establish a UN peace keeping force.Added to timeline:
