Red Scare (jan 1, 1947 – dec 31, 1957)
Description:
During the Red Scare Senator Joseph McCarthy accused several Congressmen of being Communists or Communist sympathizers and set off a nationwide paranoia. These accusations led to neighbors turning in neighbors and family turning in family as Soviet spies. Anyone caught exercising their free speech to disagree with the government was investigated and possibly even jailed as a Soviet spy.
