German zones of occupation (jun 11, 1945 – nov 9, 1989)
Description:
After WWII ended the Allies split up Germany into territories controlled by each of the major allies: the US, the USSR, the UK, and France. This was intended to be a temporary measure until all political reforms were concluded and Germany was stabilized but it continued for much longer than anticipated. Berlin was also split into 4 districts however the city was in the Soviet territory. While the occupation of the Allied-controlled zones ended on October 7th, 1949, the Soviets maintained their occupation until November 9th, 1989
