Pedro I (jan 1, 1822 – jan 1, 1831)
Pedro I was the son of the Portuguese royal family. He was made the regent of Brazil to rule it as a Portuguese colony when the king and queen had to return back to Portugal. However, he supported the revolutionary movement because he wanted to keep his family in charge of Brazil. He became the emperor, but his efforts to end slavery contributed to his growing unpopularity, leading to him being forced to abdicate.
