The Battle of the Coral Sea (apr 29, 1942 – may 8, 1942)
Description:
-The Battle of the Coral Sea was the first advance into the Pacific since Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
-Was the first naval engagement where opposing ships never sighted or even fired at each other but on May 7th, the two forces began sending air strikes to each other over the next two days and resulted in 77 Japanese and 66 American warplanes destroyed along with a well known American ship, the Lexington. The battle resulted in what some consider a victory for both sides or an unclear victory due to the losses on both sides.
