The Phony War (oct 6, 1939 – may 10, 1940)

Description:

WW2 began September 1st, 1939, the first 7 months where known as "the Phony war". It was the time period between September of 1939 and April 1940. During that time period there where no land battles, no bombs being dropped, the battles where limited to the seas, giving it the name "The phony war". This war was set off by the invasion of Poland by Hitler September 1st, 1939. Eventually brought to an end by the German invasion of Norway in April 1940. Winston Churchill referred this period as the twilight war, The Germans called it the armchair war or Sitzkrieg in the joking manner because Sitzkrieg meant warfare without progress or a stalemate. This "Great Phony war" occurred at Westwall Monschau Germany (Siegfried Line)"western Europe".
