Polis= city=stateLandowners decided to abolish the office of Basileus (not always, sometimes they only limited him) and his power was divided between several officials and the council of elders= OLIGARCHY
Later some poleis switched to tyranny and then democracy.
Acropolis=fortified hilltop
Citizens= free adult men owning land
Non-citizens= everyone else, NO POLITICAL RIGHTS
