Dred Scott Case (jan 4, 1846 – jan 1, 1857)
Description:
In 1846 Dred Scott sued for this freedom because his owner died and he was in free land at one point in his life. Three things were considered citizenship, freedom, and can slavery being banned. He lost. It brought them closer to war because Republicans' policies depended on federal territories not having slaves. Northerns worried that the court would say they couldn't ban slavery. The south thought it protected their rights.
