Plessy v. Ferguson (dec 1, 1895 – jun 1, 1904)
Description:
In 1896 the U.S. Supreme Court's
Plessy v. Ferguson decision affirmed the constitutionality of what came to be known as Jim Crow. White southerners used
intimidation and violence, particularly lynching, to enforce the region's racial hierarchy. Although most northern blacks
could vote, they, too, faced discrimination, segregation, and racist violence.
