The Cold War (mar 12, 1947 – dec 26, 1991)
Description:
Orson Wells, who is credited as giving the name "The Cold War" to the era described it as “two or three monstrous super-states, each possessed of a weapon by which millions of people can be wiped out in a few seconds.” (You and the Atom Bomb | The Orwell Foundation). Looking at the Cold War from a cultural lens within the United States, the era was defined by several political movements (The Black Power movement, the Red Power movement, the anti-War and Queer Rights movements to name a few) and the questioning of American political power all under the threat of mutally assured destruction under atomic weaponry.
