-Castro + surviving rebels formed guerilla army, seemingly insurmountable odds against them

-reasons for growing support: morale-boosting leadership, helped peasants (respect, education + healthcare, oppressors + own men mistreating them punished), brutal methods of army (e.g. treatment of peasants, interrogation)

-army bases were static targets - rebels used mobility + surprise attacks

-Castro willingness to adapt: plans adjusted (urban --> rural)

-urban revolutionaries: sabotage, propaganda, graffiti, strikes, support from middle classes

-Radio Rebelde established to spread message
