Council of Trent (jan 1, 1545 – jan 1, 1563)
Description:
Church leaders had been calling for a council throughout the 16th century, including Luther and other reforms. However, by the time Pope Paul III agrees to a council, the goal is no longer to reconcile churches but to respond to the Protestants. The Council of Trent solidified Roman Catholic teaching and helped define modern Roman Catholicism.
