Description:
Cause (International): WWII ended, collapse of United Front, race between the Nationalists and Communists to control vital resources and population centers in northern China and Manchuria.
Effect (International): Sparked beginning of Chinese Civil War, US would intervene and create Marshall Plan to incite alliance between the two temporarily, but CCP gained control of mainland and GMD leadership retreated to Taiwan.
Cause (Domestic): Japan accepted the surrender terms of the Potsdam Declaration after decades of influence over Chinese territory.
Effect (Domestic): China weakened by gross domestic output, high rates of inflation, and high levels of urban unemployment, leaving more room for Japanese invasions.
