Description:

Cause (International): members of the Militia United in Righteousness (Boxers) began to commit acts of violence against foreigners, particularly Westerners and Christian missionaries, due to economic issues and disputes between both sides.

Effect (International): Sparked the Boxer Rebellion, which was eventually stopped in 1901 by an Eight-Member Nation (comprising Britain, France, Russia, the USA, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy and Japan) which ordered them to pay reparations; Qing China was further humiliated.

Cause (Domestic): The cause of the Boxer Rebellion was due to foreign influence that mainly included that of Western nations and Christianity, but Japanese influenced also played a part in fueling the rebellion.

Effect (Domestic): As a result of the Eight-Member Nation withdrawing from China due to the demonstration of the Boxers to resist Western powers from directly colonizing China, Japan had more room to colonize China.
