Northern Expedition of the First United Front (jul 9, 1926 – dec 29, 1928)
Description:
Cause (International): Anglo-Japanese alliance with Britain and May Fourth Movement contributed to the development and power of CCP, which would then partner with GMD to form Northern Expedition.
Effect (International): The Northern Expedition was aided by Soviet arms and advisers and by a propaganda corps that preceded them; afterwards, nationalist army turned on Britain as the chief imperialist power and primary enemy
Cause (Domestic): After death of Yuan Shikai, no direct successor to take his place sparked the Warlord Era, which fragmented China into different regions controlled by a warlord.
Effect (Domestic): CCP and GMD created a joint-campaign to unify China, Chinese Nationalist Army formed, battled forces of the warlords.
