Originally known as The Great War, as hopes were we would never have a war on this scale again, we were naive. Began in 1914 after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. This set into motion a series of events due to treaties and agreements between nations hurling the world toward a massive war. These agreements had kept conflict at bay until tensions reached a tipping point and the assassination gave an excuse to desire. Austria-Hungary, backed by Germany, wished to deal with the Serbian uprising, but wouldn't do anything as Serbia was backed by Russia The Serbians feared A-H were gearing up for war and began to mobilize troops asking for Russias help. This set A-H off and they declared war and Germany joined. Through the many alliances that had been formed the majority of the world powers were at war.Added to timeline:
