Westward Movement (jan 1, 1850 – dec 31, 1859)
Description:
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican-American War, added more than 1 million square miles of new territory to the United States. This land was able to be claimed and owned cheap thanks to the Homestead Act so many settlers embarked to start their lives with their own land. There were also discoveries of Gold which would lead to gold rushes and Boomtowns occupied by dareing oportunists.
