Long Telegraph (feb 22, 1946 – jul 1, 1947)

Description:

After realizing that the Soviet Union was not in line with American interests or ideals, American diplomat George K. Kennan sent an 8,000 word cable, which would later be known as the 'Long Telegraph, to the U.S. government analyzing Soviet policy, and explaining their recent unsettling actions. He argued that they were using their belief in Communism to be aggressive. And, later in an article written the next year, he argued that the only solution for the Soviet problem was to not back down, and contain them using a strong counter-force. This greatly impacted future Cold War tactics, and set the stage for future actions taken by the U.S., Containment became the primary method of fighting the Soviets during the Cold War.
