Yalta Conference (feb 4, 1945 – feb 11, 1945)

Description:

Known as the 'Big Three,' Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill, all leaders of global powers, met at a resort in Yalta in Ukraine. There, it was discussed what was to be done with Europe, and the terms of alliance. While Roosevelt wanted to set up democratic governments, Stalin wanted Soviet-style governments Eastern European countries. There the United Nations was created to replace its powerless predecessor, the League of Nations. There, they committed dividing Germany into four zones controlled by different Allied powers, which would cause a lot of trouble in the future Cold War. The Yalta Conference set the stage for the Cold War, as it allowed the Soviet Union to control several European countries for an undecided amount of time.
