The invasion of Poland, also known as the September campaign, 1939 defensive war and Poland campaign, was an attack on the Republic of Poland by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union which marked the beginning of WW2. Germany invaded Poland to regain lost territory and ultimately rule their neighbor to the east.
The German invasion of Poland was a primer on how Hitler intended to wage war–what would become the “blitzkrieg” strategy.
