Description:

Freed slaves didn't have the same rights as men even though they were intended to. Southern states made racial segregation laws and made it hard for freed slaves to vote. These segregation laws were known as Jim Crow laws.
The Supreme Court ruled these laws ('separate but equal') as constitutional.
