1st Anglo-Maratha War (mar 1, 1775 – may 1, 1782)
Description:
-After the death of Madhavrao, his brother Narayanrao succeeded as 5th Peswa --> Raghunath Rao didn't like it, killed him, and assumed power- Started with the Treaty of Surat(1775) --> Salsette and Bassain to English in return English will provide Raghunath with 2500 soldiers
- Maratha army had a larger number but the English had superior ammunition and cannons
- The English surrendered and signed the Treaty of Wadgaon in 1779
- Finally after the defeat of Sindhia by British led to a peace treaty of Salbai in 1782
