-Worked at Gottingen and extended research on color vision, the psychophysics of Fechner, and the memory research of Ebbinghaus
-Added introspection to CVC technique to argue that memory is an active process, not a passive accumulation of information
-First to identify retroactive interference (new information interferes with old)
-Invented the Memory Drum: drum rotates and a horizontal slit window in the shield exposes the scroll on the drum to test subject on the other side one line at a time, at a speed determined by the operator
