Mormon Trail (feb 4, 1846 – jul 24, 1847)
Description:
The Mormon Trail was a route taken by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from Illinois to their new head quarters in present day Salt Lake City Utah. The original journey is 1846 -1847 included about 3,000 Mormons, but the trail was used regularly until the introdcution of the Transcontinental Railroad. In all about 70,000 Mormons traveled west on the trail. (Mormon Trail, 2009.)
