Moving to the Beet Farm (jan 1, 1945 – feb 16, 1951)
Description:
At this time, Naomi, Stephen, Uncle, and Obasan are forced to move once again. They end up living on a beet farm (moved to the Eastern part of Canada), but face many challenges as they try to survive. While some families receive the opportunity to move East, other families are enforced into new camps. As evident in the story, the government provides more assistants for those who were moving back to Japan, rather than those trying to rebuild their lives in Canada. Overall, the relocation programs caused a lot of hunger, poverty, and ostracism. This shows how the government does not care for those who desire to stay in Canada.
