Second Message to Nesan (feb 15, 1942 – feb 15, 1942)
Description:
Aunt Emily sends another letter to Nesan, explaining new rules that have been set in Canada, only applying to Japanese people: "A curfew that applies only to us was started a few days ago. If we're caught out after sundown, we're thrown in jail." (Kogawa 147). She also tells Nesan that "People who have been fired--and there's a scramble on to be the first to kick us out of jobs-- sit at home without even being able to go out for a consoling cup of coffee." (Kogawa 147). Once again, this proves that only Japanese-Canadians have been facing mass discrimination in Canada.
