Administration of Philip Nolan Voigt (D) (jan 20, 1981 – aug 12, 1985)
Description:
Progressive social Democrat Voigt won the election by a narrow margin, and commentators largely said more as a result of Republican failure than Democratic success. With relations in Russian thawing far faster than anyone expected, Voigt's credentials as a diplomat familiar with the Soviets was a plus. He passed a Universal basic Income bill soon into his first term. However, his time in office was cut short when an aneurysm killed him during the first year of his second term of his presidency.
