Dawes Act (feb 8, 1887 – feb 8, 1887)
Description:
The Dawes Act was signed by President Cleveland on February 8, 1887. The Dawes Act changed the Native American from tribal members to individuals that were subject to federal laws. The point of the act of the encourage Native Americans to become part of white culture and live in smaller groups rather than large tribes. It did not turn out well for the Native Americans and the act was dissolved in 1934. (Dawes Act, 2009.)
