Franz Brendel (oct 1, 1811 – jun 1, 1868)
Description:
Wrote a history of music based on Hegel's dialectic. Also gave an 1859 keynote address where he coined the term "New German School" to describe the "progressive", programmatic musics of Liszt, Berlioz, and Wagner (even though only Wagner was german, they all supposedly claim heritage with Beethoven.)
"New German School" replaced the term Zukunftsmusik, or "Music of the Future".
