Description:
Napoleon led a coup against the Directory in 1799; subsequently becoming a dictator-like leader. The new French constitution was written to establish a new Napoleon government called the Constitution of the Year VIII.
The Allied powers exiled Napoleon to the small island of Elba after they determined he restricted the peace of Europe. He became the islands soverign. After a few months, he was able to escape and return to France.
