Description:
When gold was discovered in California in early 1848, thousands of people traveled to California to try and get rich. The population of California grew 100x what is what before gold was discovered. Towns were quickly built to meet the needs to the prospectors. This eventually led to statehood for California. (The Gold Rush of 1849, 2010.)Added to timeline:
