Great Bengal Famine (sep 18, 1769 – aug 1, 1770)

Description:

Major damage to the northern Bengal area- huge amounts of death (range of estimates from 5% to 1/3rd of the population dead) from starvation in combination with a smallpox epidemic. Start of unrest in India under the rule of the East India Company as they appeared to only care about the loss in profits and hardly provided relief.
