Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (jan 1, 1710 – jan 1, 1736)
Description:
The great masterwork of the intermezzo genre was La serva padrona (The Maid as Mistress) by the precocious Pergolesi, a Neapolitan composer who died of TB at the age of 26 and who became, partly for that reason, a figure of enduring fame. In his short life he composed ten works for the stage, including four serious operas and three two-part intermezzos.
