Antoine Busnoys (jan 1, 1430 – jan 1, 1492)

Description:

Ockeghem's counterpart, Binchois' successor. Perhaps the earliest leading composer from whom autograph manuscripts survive.

Wrote the most famous "L'Homme armé" mass, in which each movement starts with an identical head motif. Uses silent tenor occasionally, wherein the superius and altus voices proceed in spurts of imitative writing, known as pervading imitation".

Motet "In hydraulis", which is in praise of Ockeghem, comparing him to Pythagoras and Orpheus. Ockeghem returned the compliment in the form of an even more elaborate motet called "Ut heremita solus"
